Deputy Mayor of Rakov: Muscovites thanked their doctors on World Cancer Day
05.02.2025On World Cancer Day, the capital thanked oncologists in a special way. This was reported by Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.
"We can confidently say that oncological care in Moscow today is one of the best in the world. With the introduction of the new standard in 2019, we created a comprehensive care system where a person with an oncological diagnosis can effectively go through all stages of treatment. The use of digital solutions, infrastructure upgrades, and modern equipment - all this helps us successfully treat people and more often detect oncology at early stages - over the past five years alone, we have increased this figure by almost five percent, and now it is about 68 percent. However, this would not be possible without our professional doctors. Today, at the city's five anchor oncology hospitals, about a thousand specialists provide medical care every day, helping patients fight oncological diseases. I am sure that everyone will agree that they are real heroes. On World Cancer Day, on behalf of Muscovites, we would like to thank the specialists for their hard work. All over Moscow you can see portraits of oncologists from our hospitals on billboards, and the media façade of the Oktyabr cinema will broadcast words of gratitude from Muscovites who have beaten cancer all day long.” — the deputy mayor reported.
The symbol of the World Cancer Day is a purple ribbon. Therefore, city buildings will be decorated with purple lighting on February 4. Among them: the Ferris wheel "Solntse Moskvy", media facades of "book houses" on Novy Arbat, the Crimean Bridge, houses on Tverskaya and Novy Arbat, Ostankino TV Tower.
The Ferris wheel "Solntse Moskvy" will change the central sign towering over the main entrance to the attraction until February 9 and add a new meaning to the logo: "Oncologists - you are our... Sun of Moscow." And doctors and their families will be offered to rise to a height of 140 m on the largest Ferris wheel in Europe.
The Winzavod Contemporary Art Center is hosting a photo exhibition of the project to support people with oncological diseases, "There Was Chemotherapy, But We Broke Up," until February 19. The heroes of the photo exhibition are Muscovites who have undergone or are undergoing systemic anti-cancer therapy. Thanks to volunteer photographers, the viewer will see the beauty and courage of these people, understanding that this disease is not a death sentence. As part of the opening of the photo exhibition, a Health School will be held, aimed at psychological support for cancer patients and their loved ones.
Also, at the Moskino cinema chain, GUM Cinema Hall and Five Stars on Smolenskaya and Paveletskaya, before the screenings, you will be able to see video stories of heroes who have overcome cancer.
In 2019, a standard of oncological care was developed in Moscow. In the three years since then, it has been possible to create a fundamentally new structure in this area. Five anchor oncological hospitals were identified, employing specialists with extensive experience. These are the S.P. Botkin City Clinical Hospital, City Clinical Oncology Hospital No. 1, Moscow City Oncology Hospital No. 62, the A.S. Loginov Moscow Clinical Research Center, and the Kommunarka Moscow Multidisciplinary Clinical Center. Each hospital has a pathomorphological laboratory, outpatient oncology care centers, and oncological surgery buildings. They make it possible to organize a full cycle of diagnostics and treatment of patients in one place - from diagnosis to dispensary observation.
