Vice Mayor Rakova Announces Launch of First Client Path for Infertility Treatment
21.01.2025As part of the new standard of obstetric and gynecological care in Moscow, the first client journey to help women who have been unable to conceive for a long time. The program is designed for 12 months and includes a range of studies and treatment for patients diagnosed with infertility. This was reported by Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.
"Over the past few years, we have been paying special attention to the development of obstetric and gynecological care in Moscow. We have developed and implemented a new standard, opened five women's health centers to date, and also launched a program that helps women take care of their reproductive health and plan their pregnancy wisely. And it is very important that each of them clearly understood where and when she needed to go at each stage. That is why last year we introduced the first client path for pregnancy management, and now we have another one. It is needed to provide the most effective assistance to women with infertility. The program is designed for 12 months and is available in the capital's women's consultations and women's health centers. It includes a set of studies to identify the exact cause of reproductive dysfunction, treatment, and, if necessary, further routing to clinics for the use of assisted reproductive technologies. And all this is free of charge.", — the deputy mayor said.
At the first stage of the program, the woman should visit an obstetrician-gynecologist. The doctor will conduct an examination and offer to do an ultrasound of the uterus and appendages and take the necessary tests: smears for microflora and sexually transmitted infections, as well as blood tests for hormones. These procedures will help to evaluate the functioning of the endocrine system and the number of eggs in the ovaries. If there are indications, additional tests may also be prescribed. At this time, the woman's partner should contact a urologist and take a semen test to evaluate the quality and quantity of male germ cells. Based on the results of the examination at a follow-up appointment, the obstetrician-gynecologist determines whether the woman needs additional tests carried out in the hospital (hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, etc.), and, if necessary, issues referrals for them.
Once the doctor has collected all the necessary data, he will be able to accurately determine the causes of infertility. Then he will discuss further steps with the woman and give her useful recommendations. Depending on the nature of the disease, the patient may be prescribed conservative or surgical treatment. For example, if the factor negatively affecting reproductive function is the woman's mental state, she will be referred to a psychologist, and if the problem is in the hormonal background - to an endocrinologist. Both of these doctors, along with a therapist and an obstetrician-gynecologist, receive patients at Women's Health Centers. Thus, you can consult with them in one place, without wasting time visiting different medical institutions.
Doctors will do everything possible to ensure that pregnancy can occur naturally. If, after 12 months, the desired result is not achieved – and also in cases where spontaneous pregnancy is clearly impossible, for example, if the patient does not have fallopian tubes – the woman is referred to a specialized clinic where she will be helped to become a mother using assisted reproductive technologies, including free in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures.
In September In 2024, the capital launched a unique free project to support reproductive health. This is a special set of examinations and procedures that will help women assess their reproductive potential and plan a future pregnancy. It was developed jointly with leading reproductive specialists and obstetricians-gynecologists. Now you can find out your egg reserve for free and determine how capable your body is of conceiving. To do this, you need to take a blood test for the level of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH). The city offers women with low AMH levels free use of modern reproductive technologies that will help them become mothers: IVF (in vitro fertilization), cryopreservation of eggs or embryos, and others.
Women's Health Centers are modern clinics with a wide range of diagnostic capabilities, where any woman can receive obstetric and gynecological care throughout her life, prepare for pregnancy and be monitored by "her" doctor before the birth of her child. Each center will be assigned patients from one or two administrative districts. Such centers are a key element of the new standard of obstetric and gynecological care in the capital.
