Space begins with a smile: Hero of Russia evaluates dentistry according to new standards
06.04.2026On April 1, on the eve of Cosmonautics Day and Space Week starting on April 6, a legendary man visited Dental Clinic No. 64 - pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russia, State Duma deputy, Roman Yuryevich Romanenko.
I met the guest Chief physician of the clinic, candidate of medical sciences Elizaveta Vladimirovna EfremovaTogether with her and other employees, Romanenko toured the renovated branch and discussed the important intersection of two fields: space and dentistry.
The star guest and his mission
Roman Yuryevich is more than just an honored guest. As a cosmonaut, he has firsthand knowledge of the fundamentals of dentistry: professional care is unavailable in the ISS, so each of them undergoes specialized training—from theory to working with instruments on models.
"In the entire history of manned spaceflight, there have only been two cases where a cosmonaut has had to treat his own teeth," Romanenko shared. "But it's better that such skills remain purely theoretical."
What the Hero of Russia saw
Elizaveta Vladimirovna Efremova and the guest toured the clinic's newly renovated branch. The renovation was completed in accordance with the New Moscow Standard, a program that makes medical care closer, more convenient, and more technologically advanced.
The tour was also conducted by:
Kamran Hanbala ogly Mailov Head of the Orthopedic Department, Orthopedic Dentist
Kirill Valerievich Novikov — head of the dental department, dental surgeon;
Olga Alekseevna Khrapova - senior nurse.
The team demonstrated new equipment, digital diagnostic and treatment capabilities, and comfortable waiting areas. Romanenko praised the quality of the renovations and equipment, noting that these conditions exemplify effective care for the health of Muscovites.
Cosmic plans - earthly concerns
"The clinic of the future is already here. It's gratifying that dental care is becoming more accessible and the technology more precise," said Romanenko. "I wish the team success and grateful patients."
The visit ended on a positive note: space and medicine are two areas where Russia has traditionally excelled. And the meeting at SP No. 64, chaired by Elizaveta Vladimirovna Efremova, further confirmed this.
Happy Cosmonautics Day!
